Another year of the cost-of-living
Working in the field of crisis support is a peculiar experience. Time seems to move both incredibly slowly and in the blink of an eye. It feels as though it was only yesterday when people were self-isolating, wearing masks, and the government took action to support food banks. Yet, in reality, that was four years ago, and the pressure has not eased. The intervening years have seen conflict in Europe and significant rises in energy bills, while food banks have remained a constant. However, what has diminished is the level of support they receive. Donations are steady but declining, yet the demand persists.

The SFPA was established not only to support food banks but also to represent them at a county level in matters of policy. Over the past year, we have redefined our aims and objectives, becoming more ambitious in our campaign to end food poverty in our county. Our goal is clear: we seek not the normalisation of food banks, but an end to their necessity.
